9 Minimalist Ways to Building Better Grooming Habits

Grooming yourself is important and has many benefits, as discussed in our previous article here. This article describes some simple grooming habits you can do on a daily basis.

1. Brush your hair

I am ashamed to say that there have been days when I forgot to brush my hair. But I have changed! If I can do it, so can you.

2. Clean your nails

You can clean your nails in under 2 minutes while you are in the shower using a nail brush. Clean nails can make a world of difference. It is also a hygienic practice which decreases the amount of germs you transfer to your face or body.

3. Take a shower

This is kind of obvious. Having a daily wash is not only a basic hygienic habit, but also makes us feel much calmer and relaxed.

4. Moisturize

Air-conditioners dehydrate our skins, especially with prolonged use. It is imperative that we moisturize our skin not just form the outside but also from the inside – so make sure you drink enough water.

5. Put cucumbers on your eyes

Most of the jobs these days consist of looking at a computer screen for way too long. To add to that, we also look at our phones. Putting cucumbers on your eyes gives them that much needed rest and relaxation, even if it’s only for 5 minutes. They will look less puffy, and the dark cycles will lessen.

6. Oral hygiene

Brushing twice a day is normal. but I notice these days people eat and don’t rinse their mouth properly. This can bring a foul smell from your mouth which can disturb your colleagues near by. What you can do is either rinse your mouth after eating or drink water. Alternatively you can chew a gum or some mouth refreshing fennel seeds.

7. Use perfume/deodorant (if needed)

The reason I said if need be is because I have got into the habit of rubbing and washing my underarms and feet with pure lemon juice from time to time. I do not know about the scientific reasons behind this – but it totally eliminates body odor. I swear it has worked for me and my loved ones.  Try it and tell me if it worked for you.

8. Have good posture

Sit in front of a mirror, and sit how you would normally sit. Now sit up straight. Can you see the difference? It is startling isn’t it? Try the same while you stand. Because of using our cell phones so often, our posture tends to get worse because of straining our neck and bending our spine. It is important to consciously ensure you have a healthy posture.

9. Keep your feet clean

Like how people can judge you by your shoes. They can also judge your cleanliness habit or your grooming habit by looking at your naked feet. Now I am not telling you to go to a feet spa, but just to keep your feet clean.

What I do is warm a bowl of water, add some lemon and salt, soak it for around 10 minutes, and apply some moisturizer. NOTE: Do not soak your feet where your feet burns. The water can be warm enough for your feet to not burn. Do this before sleeping and see how it feels.
